Benthesikyme is a lesser-known sea goddess in Greek mythology, often depicted as the daughter of the sea god Poseidon and the nymph Ammonia. She is said to have been born during a time when Poseidon was involved in a battle against the giants. Benthesikyme, like her father, is associated with the power and majesty of the sea. While her story is relatively obscure, she is sometimes described as a protector of the waters and an embodiment of the vastness and mystery of the ocean. Her myth highlights the deep connection between the sea and divine forces, representing both the beauty and the untamed power of the ocean’s depths. A goddess of the waves and known as the “lady of the deep swells,” she was a nymph of the African Sea and later went on to become the first known queen of Ethiopia.
